Who we are
Image A Nation is an art initiative based in Amman. We invite painters from around the world to the cities, landmarks and culture of the Middle East, and ask them to paint with their own eyes and their own hands. Every work carries the signature of its artist and the spirit of its place.
How it began
The idea took shape in 2012: that a land so often described in headlines deserves to be seen through the brush. In 2015 the first collection was launched. Since then, artists from different countries and traditions have travelled to the region, spent time in its streets, markets and landscapes, and returned a body of work that now numbers 73 paintings and six calligraphic pieces.
Our vision
To give the region a visual voice that is warm, proud and true to life, painted by artists who have studied each place closely. We do not set out to decorate walls. We set out to capture an artbeat: the pulse of a living land.
How a collection is made
A city, a landmark or a way of life worth painting.
Painters whose voice suits the place, with a local artist in each region wherever possible.
Artists and our team visit many places, read and research, and take over 100 photographs of each one. Each evening they talk through what they have seen and decide what to paint the next morning.
Each painting is accompanied by a short story of its place.
Each work exists as one original and a small, numbered edition of copies.
