Khat & Tazhib

Arabic calligraphy and illumination, by two master hands

Khat is the art of Arabic calligraphy; tazhib is the art of illumination, the gold and colour that frame a calligraphic text. Here the two meet in six unique pieces: calligraphy by Mohannad Al Qaisi, illumination by Amal Abu Rub, both Jordanian artists trained in the Turkish tradition, made in 2016. Where the paintings of Image A Nation look outward at places, these pieces look inward, at the written word as a work of art.
